English Synopsis
Sonia Gaskell, founder and artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet, a controversial lady from abroad, with an eventful life. “Madame”, as she was called, took dance in post-war Holland to an international level. In this documentary former pupils such as Marianna Hilarides and Jaap Flier reflect on her remarkable personality and great influence on the world of dance. An important figure in “Madame” is world-famous choreographer Rudi van Dantzig, her successor at the National Ballet. The camera is following him during his research for and writing of his book about Sonia Gaskell.
