<p>The legendary ballet duo Jaap Flier and Marianna Hilarides found fame in the early 1950s. Flier was Van Dantzig’s idol, and Van Manen’s inspiration. In 1959, Flier was one of the co-founders of Nederlands Dans Theater, before going on to head the Amsterdam School for New Dance Development. Contemporary theatre makers including Boukje Schweigman and Kenzo Kusuda continue to seek him out for collaborations. </p> <p>Jaap Flier, solist examines the sometimes contrary choices made by a dancer who continued to perform into old age. </p>

<p>Begin jaren vijftig vormt Jaap Flier samen met Marianna Hilarides een legendarisch klassiek duo. Voor Van Dantzig is Flier een idool, voor Van Manen dé reden om te gaan dansen. In 1959 is Flier één van de oprichters van het Nederlands Dans Theater. Daarna leidt hij de Amsterdamse School voor Nieuwe Dans-ontwikkeling. Nog steeds zoeken hedendaagse theatermakers als Boukje Schweigman en Kenzo Kusuda zijn samenwerking. </p> <p>Jaap Flier, solist gaat over de soms dwarse keuzes van een danser die tot op hoge leeftijd heeft opgetreden. </p>
